This body of work utilizes the human body as a metaphorical means to explore identity and how the interaction of the mind and body forges personal identity. Our age, more than any other historical period, allows us the freedom to transcend boundaries, explore, and self-define our individuality beyond and above social norms or any other eteronomy. The figures in this are both conceptually and aesthetically influenced by the ancient Greek notion of perfection, which stating that those who achieved the ideal balance of mind and body were regarded as divinely gifted to mortals. We are continually taught that perfection is the goal of our individual molding process. The journey to ‘perfection,’ however, is comprised mostly of failures and mistakes. These imperfections are the gradual indication of our time on this earth and proof of the experiences that shaped our growth and potential to became a greater self. My artwork aims to expose the challenging shifts in physical and psychological balances that occur during our chrysalis phase.

These realistic imperfections should be embraced, admired, and loved.

"EIDOLON"
Collective Exhibition
The Trout Gallery of Dickinson College; Carlisle, USA
APRIL 29 - MAY 21, 2016
Opening Reception: May 20, 2016 at 19:00
Both meanings of Eidolon are apropos to the work of these young artists. Narrative is not only found in a linear mode, but common to all the art is an awareness, presence, and molding of the past. Buried within each piece are particular histories of material, process, and imagery that unfold slowly, and yield echoes of previous states. There is certainly a sense of something apparitional, for the pieces have life, but live in a world of their own, and as one looks more closely, what is first read as definitive tends to dissipate into things less definable. In veiled figures, in translucent layerings, in the re-purposing of stuff , in the filtering through memory, through changing light, meticulously observed color, recalled sounds—all evoke and bear traces of their own past.
